The Flowers

in Spring the meadow comes alive with native Iris.

Oak woodlands have a wide variety of naturally occurring flowers and at Oak Creek Conservancy they are supplemented by a swath of daffodils and gladiolas planted along sections of the driveway to provide beauty while being naturally deer-resistant. Additional varieties of tulips, dahlias and other flowers are like  “deer candy” so are planted within enclosures protected by deer fencing.  As well, numerous native flowers are found in the Conservancy including crocus, iris, tarweed and camus

which has great historical and cultural significance as an important food source for the Kalapuya indigenous people.

A wide variety of tiny flowers grow here sometimes referred to as “belly flowers,” because they are so small they are best viewed by getting down on your belly.
